Better Market Street Stormwater Conceptual Design

San Francisco, California

The City of San Francisco is developing a stormwater management concept plan to support the Better Market Street Streetscape Plan.  The goal of the project is to revitalize Market Street from Octavia Boulevard to The Embarcadero and reestablish the street as the premier cultural, civic and economic center of San Francisco and the Bay Area. The new design aims to create a comfortable, universally accessible, sustainable, and enjoyable place that attracts more people on foot, bicycle and public transit to visit shops, adjacent neighborhoods and area attractions.  Kevin Robert Perry, while working for NNA Landscape Architecture, was the lead designer for the stormwater concept plan and was responsible for evaluating existing stormwater conditions, determining stormwater management opportunities and constraints, and developing a “toolkit” of green street design strategies for the project corridor.  Kevin is continuing this project through Urban Rain Design and is developing stormwater concept plans in four specific areas along the project corridor.  The project team’s ultimate goal is to recommend innovative, effective, and context-sensitive design solutions to the project’s Streetscape Design Team who would then integrate this information into the broader streetscape planning effort.
